For most furniture testing applications — chair seat/backrest cycling, mattress rolling, sofa compression — electric servo-driven systems are the better choice. They deliver superior positioning accuracy (typically ±0.1 mm via servo encoder feedback), cleaner operation with no hydraulic oil maintenance, lower energy consumption, and quieter running, making them ideal for in-house QA labs. Servo-hydraulic systems make sense when you need very high forces — typically above 20 kN — or when performing heavy static load tests like table structural testing under EN 1730, where a single-point load can exceed 2000 N. A practical rule of thumb: if your peak test force is under 10 kN (which covers 90%+ of mattress, sofa, and office chair testing per BIFMA X5.1/EN 12520/ASTM F1566), go electric.
